Also, we met Ann from the West Coast Rottweiler Rescue over the weekend, she was impressed with and absolutely loved Leo. She also spoke very highly of you and the work you have done for the rescue.

See you Saturday!

Thanks Amber_just wanted to say I really enjoyed your ‘Dog park Safety Seminar’ I referred several people to you and I still use the things you taught us every day!  My 85 pound girl now plays well with other dogs and I am much more comfortable at any park!

Thank you!

Hi Amber,

I have worked very hard with Pokke and met with more success than I could have dreamed of!  We have a ways to go yet and are contemplating putting some screens on some windows to work through the next aggravation.  Just wanted to get off a quick note and let you know how we’re doing.

Thank you for taking the time out of your family visit that Sunday; it has made a critical difference in our lives.

Best personal regards,

Daintry

“ I started referring behavioural cases to Amber in 2003 while working in the Delta area.  I was immediately impressed by her professional yet caring manner and down to earth approach.  I particularly enjoyed her “team” approach of working with both the attending veterinarian and the owners to treat behavioural problems in our canine family members.  Once I began locum work in the Lower Mainland, I still relied on Amber for my frustrating behavioural cases and was very pleased when she opened her training center in Delta.  Over the years, the feedback has been consistently positive from both frustrated pet owners and veterinarians alike.  I am very grateful for Amber’s skills and talent and look forward to working with her for many years to come.”

Dear Amber,

I got more out of your behavior seminar at Hassayampa Canine Resort than I have anywhere.  Thank you.

Hi Amber,

>> Thanks so much for you gentle guidance. I have found in the past that dog trainers I’ve worked with were great with dogs but often downright nasty to their humans. I think we all felt as secure and comfortable under your tutelage as our dogs did, and I truly enjoyed our sessions. The pups have come a long way. With Homer especially your advice on getting him to watch me, and how to do it, has proven so valuable!

>> I would like to enroll at least Homer, and Fytch if you think it would work, in your agility sessions starting in May. Can you tell me what the dates of the next session will be and what days will be “no class”?

>> Thanks again,

>> Meg

From Christine Cathcart who wrote about the Come when Called workshop:

Jack is the ‘bad boy’ you helped council us with great advise and support this past May. I’ve meant to thank you, and say your suggestions about protection and control for Jack and also your reassurance have been greatly appreciated. Jack and I have been out on walks more frequently, usually with his muzzle, and/or gentle leader, without incident. I’m feeling calmer. I’d like to re-learn the recall skill in order to practise with Jack.

Our Boston Terrier Luna graduated from puppy kindergarten, and went on to complete the next level of obedience as well. Our girl is super smart and learned quickly, but Amber’s classes and the knowledge she shared really helped me to understand what to do to and how to teach her. I especially appreciated Amber’s tips in regards to dealing with Luna’s dominant behaviour since our previous dog was very submissive so it was a whole new experience, and I needed help! We highly recommend Amber Cottle Canine Training!

Hello Amber,

Just writing as you were wanting to hear how Max was doing as we have not been to the training center in a week or so, we took him out several times and he was good meeting new dogs and we stopped him before anything happened by walking away instead of letting him get to hyper.

Well this morning we took him to the dog part and let him off leash and he played with the other 4 dogs that were there amazingly! we were so happy!! I’m taking him again tomorrow morning as this dog park they told us every morning at 10am there are all of them there so I will start to go regularly if I can to let max socialize more and more and on a regular basis! :)

Thank you so much for everything you have done for us and with us! we see a complete different dog when we run into other dogs since the training, as we saw on our last day there in the pen he was great with the other dogs we tested him with!

Thank you,

Why should I socialize my puppy?

This is a testimonial from one of Amber’s clients—-read on.

Amber,

I first came to see you when my German shepherd Lexi, was 12 weeks old. We attended your puppy socialization and obedience class. At 16 weeks old, Lexi was attending doggy daycare, at your facility, every Thursday.

At the end of September, I had an unfortunate accident which required surgery to my leg. I was unable to walk for a period of 2 months. After talking with you on the phone, I enrolled Lexi into doggy adventure 3 time a week, as well as doggy daycare twice a week. I had a 5 month old puppy that I was unable to walk due to my injury and this seemed to be the best solution for my situation.

I am now completely convinced this was the best thing that could have happened to my dog. She is totally socialized with all the other dogs. People comment this to me all the time. I do not believe this could have happened just by going to a dog park. It was through the abilities of trained professionals in a controlled environment. We go for a walk twice a day and people comment how great my dog is and how well behaved she is. Lexi is now 9 months old.

I realize how important it is to have your dog completely socialized. Had it not been for the efforts of yourself and Barb, I do not believe my dog would be as socialized as she is now.

I just want to thank you Amber for everything. Even though I am able to walk again, I will continue to have Lexi attend your adventures and daycare. She is a better dog for that and I can’t express how important that is to me.

Thanks again,

Raye

Spring is the season for puppies and dog parks.  It is vital to get your puppy into a socializing class before taking him to a dog park.  Here are some of the reasons why:

Proper socializing is critical in preventing behavioral problems .To socialize means to prepare for life in society. Anything your puppy will encounter as an adult dog, he needs to be gradually exposed to as a puppy.

A puppy’s primary socializing period is between 3 and 16 weeks of age. The best time to bring your puppy home is around 7 or 8 weeks. It is imperative that you get your dog out walking on the street and meeting and greeting strangers and seeing the world as soon as possible. Be sure to stay away from other dogs, and any high traffic dog areas until your puppy is fully immunized at about 16 weeks of age. Puppy socializing classes are the best way to properly introduce your puppy to new dogs.

If we wait until 16 weeks to take the puppy out and see the world, then we have missed the critical socializing window. Backyard play and socializing with people in your home is not enough. Your dog needs to build confidence through gradual exposure to new experiences otherwise he may be fearful or aggressive later on.

If you have a shy puppy then I cannot stress enough how important early learning and socializing is. The key is GRADUAL exposure to new experiences so we do not traumatize the puppy.

Once we have missed the critical window of socializing, we can never go back.  It is best to start right away and prevent your dog from developing behavioral issues.  It is our job to set him up for success.
